Have A Farewell Party
Is a child in your neighborhood moving away? Why not have a farewell party for them and invite all the children in the neighborhood. Add a note to each invitation… Asking each child to write on a sheet of paper their favorite time or fondest memory they have about the child moving away. Ask the guests to send their written memory to you before the party. Make sure to tell them to sign their name when they finish their written memory.

Supply your child with a camera and send him out to take pictures of the neighborhood, the other children and favorite hangouts. Get some action shots doing activities with the child that is moving away. You will usually know in advance when the family is planning on moving. Hopefully this will give you enough time to take some nice pictures.

When you have received all the written memory sheets and you have a stack of great pictures, put everything into a memory book. Give the memory book to the guest of honor at the party. The book will be a nice going away gift that the child will treasure.
It would be fun if all the children could keep a secret and have a surprise party. Or if they can’t keep a secret about the party ask the group if they could at least not tell about the memory book.
Buy small address books for all the children and put one child’s name in each book. During the party pass out the address books for the children to put their name and address in all the books. Now, the child moving away has an address book filled with his friends and a memory book to take to his new home.
Depending on how old the children are they may just want to sit around taking and joking with each other. If that is the case have lots of snacks, things to drink and order pizza for everyone. Have a few favorite movies ready in case someone wants to watch a movie.

If the children are young invite their parents and make a block farewell party. All the neighbors can each bring a dish for a pot luck supper. The main reason for the party is for all the children to get together and say good bye to their friend and tell them how much they will miss him.
