Cowboy Birthday Party

Little boys and some girls enjoy dressing up and playing cowboys and Indians. A cowboy birthday party can be held anytime of year as an indoor party. It also works well as an outdoors party where you can easily set up camp with a campfire.

Ask your guests to come dressed as cowboys, Indians, frontiersmen or any Wild West person they like such as Davy Crockett or Daniel Boone. They can wear straw cowboy hats, a red bandanna, a cow print vest, plaid flannel shirts, coonskin hats, fringed jackets, jeans and boots.

If you have a tent you can put your tent up and create a Wild West campsite. Turn your sleeping bags into bedrolls. Bring out the old cast iron skillet and enamel coffee mugs. How about making an Indian tepee with burlap fabric, brown butcher paper and long poles.

Gather the children around the campfire and tell or read exciting Wild West stories. Your library will have stories and books suitable for your age group. Between the stories sing cowboy song such as Home On The Range.

Have a bull roping contest to see who can lasso the bull by the horns. Turn a bicycle into a bull by placing a brown blanket over the bicycle and leaving the handle bars showing. Wrap the handle bars in brown crepe paper and put the bull’s head between the two bars.

Find a picture of a bull’s head at your library or on the internet. Have the picture enlarged. If you are good at drawing, copy the bull’s face on a large piece of paper and color in the details. It doesn’t have to be perfect just as long as it looks something like a bull.

Think of some standard party games and see if you can change them a bit to fit your cowboy theme. Instead of pin the tail on the donkey you will pin the tail on the bull. Musical chairs can turn into musical saddles.

Serve simple cowboy food like roasted hot dogs and chili.
